Class #9 Followup
The interpretation that I most agree with is paraSITE that was invented by Michael Rakowitz. I find it so nice that he went out of his way to make something as impressive as this. He not only thought of himself but he thought of other people that do not have a home or don't get that kind of heat or air they need in order to survive. I also enjoy the way that he made it work. It can be put to be inflated by any side of a building, so that the homeless don't really have to search far to put it up. I think he has a done a great job investing his time to help others. It's a wonderful gesture.

Class #11 Symbolizing your Society
This is banner for the society I created with my two other group mates. It depicts the relationship between robots an humans that are in our society. How much we get along and that not only so we control the robots but they can also stand for themselves. The green around is also represents the environment and greeny feel we have in our society.
Class #11 Followup Questions
1.
(body prints of female models painted with his universal blue)
Holbein, Hans /Younger/ Sir Thomas More, oil on canvas, 1527
I believe that this painting is iconic because it is based on someone who is well-known. He was someone very famous so if someone had this painting hanging in their home, people would see it and think "wow he was so famous, this painting is iconic".
2.
Yves Klein, Anthropometry ANT 85, 1960. 155.5 x 352.5cm. (body prints of female models painted with his universal blue)
This painting to me is symbolic and indexical because it symbolizes women. It is body prints of females. It is also indexical because you can see the relationship between the models that were used for and the painting.
3.
I think that this image is symbolic because it represents love. This symbol is used a lot throughout the world, when on a social network when texting someone. I know many people who use it to represent love. For example, "I <3 You".
4.
Francesca Woodman, 35 mm Photograph
This photograph to be is indexical and iconic to me because you don't know but you can somewhat tell that there is a relationship between the lady sitting down and the women jumping. It is iconic because it looks like a photograph that has a lot of meaning behind it and because of how old it looks.

Class #7
The two works that I have chosen are the "Plaque with the Virgin Mary as a Personification of the Church" (left) and "Bowl with Rosette" (right). The first artwork I chose is from Germany and it dates ca. 800-825. The second one dates 800-1005 and is from Islam. I believe the audience to the first artwork is of people with strong religious beliefs and are active in the church, the second would be anyone who is into ceramics or objects from long ago. One would be bearing witness to the church and Mary and the other one would be to Islam culture. The difference between these two works is that one has more detail than the other, it's carved it makes you want to more about it and the other one is sort of just a plate with a flower in the middle but somehow there is so much more to it. I do not think that each artist knew about the other's traditions because they reflect two different things and they don't really connect in a way. I do think that the European mainstream work deserves a place in the mainstream story of art because it has to do with religion and it's different to what's on there now. I also believe that the non-maintstream work belongs in the mainstream story of art because it's also different, it isn't your typical sculpture or drawing. It's something simple with a lot of meaning behind it.

Cooking up a Story
Steps:
1) let the meat thaw out
2) wash the meat
3) take the ingredients out to season the meat
4) season with adobo first
5) then with the cumin
6) italian dressing comes after
7) black pepper
8) salt
9) then with a fork mix the meat with the seasonings
10) after take your dish and your oil
11) put the oil in the pan until it heats up
12) then one by one drop the meat in
Once they are done, they are usually served with rice and beans or how i like to eat it just with a piece of italian bread. This dish is simple and is usually made whenever one is in the mood for it or during a special occasion but it's nothing big. This meal is used by everyone in my family and everyone makes it the same.

HW
If I were to create an artwork that communicates something about me it would be something that is dance-related. I have being dancing since the age of 4 and I haven't stopped since. I'm in the studio two times a day every week. And i'm only getting better as the weeks pass. I think i would create two big pointe shoes (shoes that ballet dancers use) made entirely of the ribbons used to tie the pointe shoe. I would probably sketch how i want the shoes to look, form the sketch into a clay model and enlarge it and use the ribbons. I would ask my dance team to help me with the process. I don't really know where i would play the work because I don't know where they would accept such a piece. I think i would also write on the ribbons, what i would write would be some dances i have done, the people who have supported me throughout my dance life, and the people who helped me get to where I am now. Dance takes up such a great part in my life that I believe this would motivate anyone who would see the piece to follow their dreams because I never want to give up, I'm going to dance until I can't anymore.
Class #5 Lecture
a. The process that Janie Antoni used in her piece "Moore" was that she took pieces of clothing, paper, wires, etc that belonged to her family, cut them up in strips and then twisted together to make a rope. The meaning behind the piece is what Antoni used in the video "an umbilical cord" of the people in her life all joined together in this rope form.
b. I believe that the rope-tying method is appropriate to the meaning she is trying to get across because tying all her friends and families clothes or objects together to her own shows how much they mean to her and how close they are to her. Also the important role they share in her life.
c. I don't think someone with any verbal knowledge would understand what Antoni was trying to convey because it's just a rope. People would question it's meaning or why the rope-tying process was used. I think they would just think it was plain old rope that she may have bought and i think they would miss it's actually meaning and what it stands for.

Field Trip Response
This was the second work that I studied at MoMA. It's by Willem de Kooning. The piece is called "Woman I" and it was done during the 1950s. I believe this piece represents all 13 categories honesty because it represents the title "Woman I" beautifully with the man and the woman in it. The way he made it was oil on canvas. I believe the 13 categories represent the piece more than the piece representing the categories.

Process Drawing
Coffee on Paper
What i did was use coffee, paper, and water
Then i poured the water on the paper
I took some coffee grains and threw it on the wet paper
This is how it looked while it was still wet
And this is the final product after I let it dry
I thought this was would be a good idea to see how quickly the coffee grains would dissolve in the water and how dark or light it would've came out. To me it looks like an art piece i would put in a museum because it's different and it somehow tells a story. of grief.
Assignment #4
The artist that I chose is Rashaad Newsome because being a dancer myself I can see where he is coming from when he blends the form of voguing with art. The process that he uses is he transforms the dancers movements into line drawings behind the dancers while they are dancing. I think the information that Newsome is trying to translate through this process is how you can incorporate dance movements with drawing. And how they can come together to make one art piece. I think the final outcome is very much interesting to me because whenever any type of dancing is involved I want to know more about it and I want to know what it stands for and the reason why the choreographer did the movements in that way. And what Rashaad Newsome did here is remarkable to me. The dance movements go incredibly well together with the line drawings being assembled in that background and you can see how they come together. It's very different and unique, something you don't see on a daily basis.

Assignment #3
Part A:
1) Mutu's Human/insect/machine-like distortions of the body relate to conventional notions of female beauty because it shows female emotions. She states that this was a way to get her frustration out and as a female we tend to hold in emotions instead of letting them out and they build up and build up that it causes us to go crazy. People alway say women look better without make-up and I believe is trying to make the statement that women are beautiful creatures and however way you put them, in an art form it's going to be beautiful.
2) One work she did was "suspended play time" and its in the Brooklyn museum. Its these balls tied with gold twine and it's hanging from the ceiling. I think this work is beautiful because it's different, even though the balls are black the gold twine makes it stand out. It would catch my eye if I hadn't heard of it and just walked into a museum. It's ugly because I feel it has no meaning to it, it just looks like something she wanted to throw together quickly for a piece.
Part B:
a)
b) This was taken in 2011 at a friends sweet 16. I hate this picture so much. I look like a big blueberry. My arms look like man arms, they look so fat and smushed like someone squished it with their bare hands. My hair looks frizzed up and its parted on the left side. My hair was also dyed half blonde so it was two-toned. I have no idea what I was thinking when i decided to do that. I didn't have any time to iron the dress that night so it's all wrinkled. My legs look pigeon legs. My forehead looks HUGE. I just really can't stand this photo.
c) I was 15 when i took this picture and I'm 18 now. So, obviously I've changed except for my height lol. My hair isn't as short anymore and it's one color. I've also slimmed down a bit. I learned how to dress nicer and how to do my makeup better. I present myself more calm then when i did at 15, since i'm older now and i know how to present myself better than what i did. Between how I looked and how i look now, I do feel as thought there has been a great change. Probably not as drastic as some other people change but it's just right for me.

MET Museum Assignment
1.
The first art work I chose was the "Hanging Lamp with a hand holding a Cross". It was made of copper alloy during 500-700 AD. It was said that it had possibly been remodeled during the 1900s. The object comes from the Byzantine culture. The person that the maker of this work is attempting to bear witness to are to Religious figures such as Jesus, the Virgin Mary and three Saints. The artist communicates this story visually by using the hand in the middle to represent the three saints which are St. Stephan, St. Paul, and St. Peter. And then the Virgin Mary and her child being represented as the cross that the hand is holding. The work was made from copper alloy. I'm guessing that it was formed from the copper alloy, it did not say how it was made specifically. I believe the materials that were applied helped the artist tell his/her visual story was to show how much religion was practiced during that time and how much the Virgin Mary and her child were praised. I enjoy this work very much, it's something different and unique, not something you would see everywhere. I love what it represents and how the lamps handles are curved and spiked and just different.
The second object I chose was a sculpture called "Perseus with the head of Medusa". This sculpture was made by Antonio Canova in Italy. It was made during the 1800's, 1804-6, to be exact and it was made from marble. It's dimensions are H. 95 1/2 x W. 75 1/2 x D. 40 1/2 in. (242.6 x 191.8 x 102.9 cm). The idea I believe Canova is attempting to bear witness to would have to be when Perseus cut Medusa's head off. The artist communicates this story by having Perseus standing with his head held high holding onto Medusa's head in one hand and his sword in another. The artwork is made of marble so I believe Canova just took a big piece of marble and used a chisel and a hammer and just started to break pieces away to show all the features. The materials he applied helped him tell the visual story well is to show all the features during that time and how heroic and successful Perseus was. This was another piece that I enjoyed a lot as well because I have watched both movies of Percy Jackson so I know some what of who Perseus is and what type of God he is. It was a very interesting sculpture.
The last object that I chose was the Garden Landscape designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany who was an american designer in New York. Its date in which it was made was ca. 1905-15 and was made of favrile-glass mosaic. The dimensions of the object are 103 1/2 x 114 in. (262.9 x 289.6 cm). This work was inspired by Byzantine examples, Tiffany had seen abroad. I think this has to be my favorite work that I had seen in the entire musuem because it is so colorful and it's so eye catching. As soon as I saw it I knew that it had to be one of the artworks to use. The materials he Tiffany applied helped tell his story visually because the glasses are so glossy and colorful it can catch someone's attention from a mile away like it did to me. The materials he used were cement and the favorite-glass.
2.
The artwork I choose is my last object, Garden Landscape and Fountain by Louis Comfort Tiffany.
a) This object fits perfect when explaining the formal elements of art. The Unity of it is how well the colors go together and how the background connects to the fountain which is more of a 3D popping out to create a more realistic setting so that it looks like you're actually there. I believe the type of Balance this is, is a asymmetrical balance because the background is of what looks like a lake of some sort and then there's the fountain. It's not the same but somehow fits perfectly together. the Scale and Proportion part of it is perfect. I believe the dimensions of it gives it that more realistic aspect. Color and Emphasis I believe plays a huge role in it because of the different color used to show the scenery. The colors can draw someone's attention right away. I don't believe this has a Rhythm element but when i see it, it reminds me the Sound of Music.
b) This artwork is representing cultural standards of Beauty because it is very pleasing to the eye. It has that "WOW" factor that can draw someone to want to see it and research more about it. I believe there is a version of physical beauty expressed in this artwork because of how it's made. It's made form colorful piece of favorite-glass. The pieces are so small but that's what makes it. That's what I find so beautiful about it, and what makes it different from the rest of the artworks in the museum. I believe this is an emotional beauty because it's so breath taking.
c) I don't think I would re-make this piece because it would probably look pretty similar to what Tiffany did. I just find it so beautiful, it's perfect the way it is!

Homework #1
1. What I would want people to know about is that I am very giving. I always put my friends and family before myself although I know it shouldn't be like that. I always said to myself that if I couldn't be happy one day I want my friends and family to be happy and seeing them happy makes me happy. It's something very weird but it's something many people don't know about me. Sometimes I put myself first but defiantly most of the time it's my friends or family.
2. One thing that I would want to "bear witness" to, that would be remembered would be how much my culture means to me. I'm a Latina, born in Puerto Rico. My entire family is puerto rican, we celebrate the Puerto Rican Day Parade in June and the partying starts a week before the parade. The flag gets put up everywhere and we play all of the traditional music played in PR. It's a very family orientated celebration. Then on the day of the Parade we wake up really early and head down to the city and grab our spot so that we could see the parade perfectly!
