The two works that I have chosen are the "Plaque with the Virgin Mary as a Personification of the Church" (left) and "Bowl with Rosette" (right). The first artwork I chose is from Germany and it dates ca. 800-825. The second one dates 800-1005 and is from Islam. I believe the audience to the first artwork is of people with strong religious beliefs and are active in the church, the second would be anyone who is into ceramics or objects from long ago. One would be bearing witness to the church and Mary and the other one would be to Islam culture. The difference between these two works is that one has more detail than the other, it's carved it makes you want to more about it and the other one is sort of just a plate with a flower in the middle but somehow there is so much more to it. I do not think that each artist knew about the other's traditions because they reflect two different things and they don't really connect in a way. I do think that the European mainstream work deserves a place in the mainstream story of art because it has to do with religion and it's different to what's on there now. I also believe that the non-maintstream work belongs in the mainstream story of art because it's also different, it isn't your typical sculpture or drawing. It's something simple with a lot of meaning behind it.

Cooking up a Story
Steps:
1) let the meat thaw out
2) wash the meat
3) take the ingredients out to season the meat
4) season with adobo first
5) then with the cumin
6) italian dressing comes after
7) black pepper
8) salt
9) then with a fork mix the meat with the seasonings
10) after take your dish and your oil
11) put the oil in the pan until it heats up
12) then one by one drop the meat in
Once they are done, they are usually served with rice and beans or how i like to eat it just with a piece of italian bread. This dish is simple and is usually made whenever one is in the mood for it or during a special occasion but it's nothing big. This meal is used by everyone in my family and everyone makes it the same.

HW
If I were to create an artwork that communicates something about me it would be something that is dance-related. I have being dancing since the age of 4 and I haven't stopped since. I'm in the studio two times a day every week. And i'm only getting better as the weeks pass. I think i would create two big pointe shoes (shoes that ballet dancers use) made entirely of the ribbons used to tie the pointe shoe. I would probably sketch how i want the shoes to look, form the sketch into a clay model and enlarge it and use the ribbons. I would ask my dance team to help me with the process. I don't really know where i would play the work because I don't know where they would accept such a piece. I think i would also write on the ribbons, what i would write would be some dances i have done, the people who have supported me throughout my dance life, and the people who helped me get to where I am now. Dance takes up such a great part in my life that I believe this would motivate anyone who would see the piece to follow their dreams because I never want to give up, I'm going to dance until I can't anymore.
Class #5 Lecture
a. The process that Janie Antoni used in her piece "Moore" was that she took pieces of clothing, paper, wires, etc that belonged to her family, cut them up in strips and then twisted together to make a rope. The meaning behind the piece is what Antoni used in the video "an umbilical cord" of the people in her life all joined together in this rope form.
b. I believe that the rope-tying method is appropriate to the meaning she is trying to get across because tying all her friends and families clothes or objects together to her own shows how much they mean to her and how close they are to her. Also the important role they share in her life.
c. I don't think someone with any verbal knowledge would understand what Antoni was trying to convey because it's just a rope. People would question it's meaning or why the rope-tying process was used. I think they would just think it was plain old rope that she may have bought and i think they would miss it's actually meaning and what it stands for.

Field Trip Response
This was the second work that I studied at MoMA. It's by Willem de Kooning. The piece is called "Woman I" and it was done during the 1950s. I believe this piece represents all 13 categories honesty because it represents the title "Woman I" beautifully with the man and the woman in it. The way he made it was oil on canvas. I believe the 13 categories represent the piece more than the piece representing the categories.
